Silicon Valley — As Twitter’s financial future teeters on the edge, Elon Musk revealed an innovative new subscription service aimed at keeping the platform afloat: $500 per month for the privilege of trying to make Musk laugh.
Dubbed the “Comedy Gold Tier,” the premium package allows users to tweet directly at Musk, bypassing Twitter’s algorithm, in hopes of earning his elusive chuckle and potentially a meme retweet.
“If you can make me laugh, it’s worth $500,” Musk explained in a livestream while sipping an energy drink labeled “Optimism Fuel.” “It’s not just a subscription—think of it as your ticket to personal validation.”
For an extra $50, users can add a “Try Again” button that allows them to retweet failed jokes with captions like, “Please Elon, this one is funnier.”
Critics were quick to pounce on the idea. “So, you’re charging half a grand for attention?” asked one journalist. Musk responded by posting a gif of a rocket exploding. Meanwhile, competitors like TikTok and Instagram were spotted updating their terms of service to remind users that their platforms remain “Elon-free zones.”
Despite backlash, some Twitter users seem eager to sign up. “Elon laughing at my joke could boost my career,” said self-described influencer Brad Thompson. “He laughed at a meme about Dogecoin once, and it doubled the value of my crypto wallet—for 13 minutes.”
At publishing time, Twitter announced a new tier for $10,000, which guarantees Musk will fake laugh and like at least one joke a month.
