Nevada – Attendees at this year’s Burning Man festival reportedly tripped on LSD so hard that they thought the fire had already consumed everything before it even began. Some participants appeared to believe they were actually attending “The Burnt Man” festival because the line between reality and hallucination seemed to be so blurry.
For the uninitiated folks, Burning Man is an annual event held in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, where participants come together to build a makeshift city focused on radical self-expression, art, and independence. The symbolic burning of the enormous wooden effigy known as “The Man” plays a significant role in the event. However, things changed in a psychedelic way this year.
It all began when a group of seasoned Burners decided to introduce “The Preemptive Burn” to step things up. These avant-garde festival goers elevated their hallucinogenic experiences to a whole new level with an arsenal of LSD. Their justification? Why wait for the climax of the event when you can just hallucinate it beforehand?
“Dude, I was just chilling in my tent when I suddenly saw this enormous flaming man in the sky, about, like, I dunno, 10,000 feet tall!” according to one enthusiastic tripper who insisted on being called “Rainbow Visionary.” “Man, I could feel the heat! I started telling everyone that we had already experienced the burn, sort of spiritual yaknow(sic)? Because I felt like I had missed the entire Burning Man thing.”
Others jumped on the bandwagon as Rainbow Visionary spread the word about the “spiritual burn.” People began comforting one another, thinking they had missed the main event, as art installations turned into symbolic pyres. Some even started to share profound insights about their “post-burn enlightenment.”
When the actual “Man” started to burn, the confusion peaked. Attendees who had already convinced themselves that it was over were left completely perplexed. One perplexed Burner exclaimed, “Wait, is that?” as he was thinking about the metaphysical ramifications. “What is going on? My chakras are tumultuous bro.”
Festival planners were left wondering how to deal with the unanticipated circumstance in the meantime. Should they make an effort to persuade the onlookers who were tripping that the actual burn was taking place right in front of them? Or should they simply allow them to continue their journey to the “pre-burn” universe?
In the end, Burning Man lived up to its reputation as a “spiritual burn” before the actual burn, as they say. It serves as a testament to the festival’s capacity to go beyond the realms of reality and imagination by introducing its attendees to an absurdity desert.
