Engineer Declares Family's Kitchen Trash Load-Bearing After 16 Days
· 51 sec
Nobody in this house has taken the kitchen trash out in 16 days. They just kept pushing it down, so somebody called a structural engineer.
Transcript
An engineer was called to a kitchen in Dubuque, Iowa, where nobody has taken out the trash in 16 days. The family called him themselves after the lid stopped closing and started floating.
Instead of taking it out, all four of them kept pushing it down, one at a time, every night. The bag now stands four feet over the rim.
The engineer drilled a core sample. It goes back to Labor Day, where a pizza box rated for one large pepperoni is now holding up everything above it.

His report lists the bag as load-bearing. Effective immediately, nobody may remove it, lift it, or say they'll do it after dinner.

He taped off the kitchen and told the family the trash can no longer be taken out. At this point, it can only be renovated.
Removal now needs a city permit, which takes six to eight weeks. All four family members say they're happy to wait.
