Iran Central Bank Officially Rebrands Rial As Premium Wallpaper

TEHRAN, IRAN — The Central Bank of Iran announced Tuesday that the Rial will no longer be classified as a national currency, but will instead be marketed globally as a high-durability, vintage-style patterned wallpaper for the discerning homeowner.

Central Bank Governor Mohammad Rezvani noted that the currency’s value had finally reached the “economic sweet spot” where it is now significantly cheaper to paper an entire three-bedroom villa with 100,000-rial notes than it is to purchase a single roll of mid-grade vinyl adhesive from a hardware store. Officials believe the pivot to interior design will stabilize the market by ensuring that the more the currency devalues, the more affordable home renovations become for the average citizen.

Local residents have largely praised the move, noting that while a stack of banknotes can no longer purchase a single loaf of Barbari bread, the intricate green and brown engravings of the 2026-series bills provide a “rustic, inflationary chic” to modern dining rooms. Experts suggest that the Rial’s new utility as a building material has created a floor for its value, as it remains more absorbent and structurally sound than most competing brands of two-ply toilet paper.

As of this report, global logistics firms have already begun listing the “Tehran Pattern” alongside high-end Italian silks, though they warn that the currency’s adhesive properties are “highly volatile” and prone to sudden, 40% drops in coverage if the wind blows from Washington.
