Melania Trump Brokers Ceasefire for One Town; Rest of War Asked to Detour Around It
The White House says the rest of the war should take the long way around Oleshky starting Oct. 29, and use its turn signal at the city limits.

WASHINGTON — Hours after First Lady Melania Trump secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine covering exactly one city, the White House on Friday asked the remainder of the war to take the long way around Oleshky beginning Oct. 29.
“The ceasefire is localized,” said Corwin Mapsworth, a deputy assistant undersecretary for boundaries, unfolding a gas-station road map with the town circled in gold Sharpie. “Inside the line, peace. Outside the line, regular programming. We’ve asked both armies to use their turn signals at the city limits.”
The Department of Transportation has reportedly shipped 400 orange detour signs to the banks of the Dnipro River, along with a single folding sawhorse marked “WAR — PLEASE USE SIDE ENTRANCE.”
According to the White House, Mrs. Trump negotiated the deal in her formal role as “Exclusive Intermediary,” a title aides confirmed comes with a velvet rope, a clipboard, and the authority to tell an artillery battery it is not on the list.
Officials from other front-line towns have already begun lining up outside the East Wing. “We filled out the form,” said Oksana Pereverzeva-Hopko, a municipal clerk from a village 11 miles down the road, holding ticket number 4,112. “They told us the Exclusive Intermediary is booked through spring, but we can join the waitlist for a ceasefire localized to our post office.”
The agreement also promises that an impartial American media organization will document the process on the ground, which a White House fact sheet described as “very impartial, extremely American, and technically a media organization.”
As the sun set over the Kherson front, a lone tank was spotted idling at the Oleshky town line with its blinker on, waiting for a gap in traffic.
