BOSTON, MA — City officials have finally ended speculation regarding the recent surge in traffic violation notices, confirming that the new generation of automated speed enforcement is being carried out by small, highly trained dachshunds. These ‘K-9 Mobile Traffic Enforcement Units’ (K9-MTEU) are deployed daily under the guise of casual neighborhood walks.

The system utilizes miniature, military-grade optics seamlessly integrated into the dogs’ collars, positioned perfectly low to the ground to capture high-resolution images of speeding vehicles’ license plates and tire tread. The accompanying human handlers, often elderly women in comfortable walking shoes, serve as the necessary, non-suspicious camouflage.

“If you see a black dachshund struggling slightly to keep pace with a woman in a pastel windbreaker, you’re looking at a $150 fine,” warned Traffic Commissioner Ronald Plumb. “The beauty is the psychological factor. Nobody suspects Grandma Shirley’s wiener dog is logging their velocity in a 5G encrypted database.”

The distinctive, rapid ‘yip’ sound emitted by the dachshunds is not actually excitement or distress, but the automatic shutter activation triggered by radar detection. Sources close to the program noted that the black coloration of the dogs is essential for minimizing glare and maximizing photographic contrast.

When asked if this deployment method was intrusive, Plumb noted the efficiency. “We tried mounting the cameras on pigeons, but they kept dive-bombing windshields. The dachshunds are low, stable, and frankly, they enjoy the work. Their primary motivation is kibble, but they are also competitive about their citation quotas.”

As of this report, city officials confirmed that all citizen appeals have been redirected to an unmonitored dial-up line to ensure maximum administrative efficiency. A spokesperson noted that the program’s primary motivation remains meeting strict citation quotas before the next financial audit.
