Politician Promises Transparency, Immediately Becomes Invisible

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In what may be the most literal interpretation of a campaign promise ever, Congressman Frank Blathers took to the podium this week, vowing unprecedented transparency in government. Moments after his bold declaration, Blathers promptly vanished from sight, leaving both supporters and critics wondering if this was some kind of elaborate political stunt—or if he’d just taken the concept of “seeing right through a politician” to the next level.

“I’m committed to transparency like never before,” were the last words anyone actually saw Blathers say before he faded into thin air, his expensive suit crumpling to the floor. Attendees at the press conference initially believed it to be a metaphor, but when Blathers didn’t reappear, even for a sound bite, panic set in. Aides quickly whisked away the abandoned clothing, leaving the media to speculate whether this was a bold new level of honesty or just an epic case of disappearing accountability.

Blathers, now presumably invisible, has yet to clarify his policy positions, but sources close to him suggest that his new, ethereal form will allow him to move freely through the halls of power, avoiding lobbyists, critics, and responsibility with unprecedented ease. “We can’t find him, but his office assures us he’s still hard at work,” said one bewildered staffer, adding, “He’s out there somewhere, doing something… we think.”

Meanwhile, opponents were quick to seize the opportunity, with one rival quipping, “It’s the first time a politician’s ever been truly transparent—too bad it means we can’t see what he’s up to at all.” In response, Blathers’ campaign released a statement on his behalf, which read, “This is the most honest I’ve ever been. You won’t see me doing anything shady from now on—because you just won’t see me, period.”

As the nation grapples with the implications of this groundbreaking form of political transparency, citizens are left wondering: Is this the ultimate act of honesty, or just another way for a politician to disappear when it’s time to deliver on promises? Either way, it looks like Frank Blathers has finally made good on a campaign pledge—just not in the way anyone expected.
