Quantico, VA — After Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a 20 percent cut to general and flag officer positions and unveiled a new Autonomous Warfare Command, the first perks to transfer were not the stars — they were the parking spots.
“The drones don’t need coffee, they don’t need aides, and they fit between the lines,” said base operations liaison Colonel Marvin Lottsworth, watching a quadcopter settle into a freshly painted stall marked “GO / AWC.” “Human generals kept circling for twenty minutes. It was becoming a national security issue.”
Hegseth told junior leaders at Marine Corps Base Quantico that the military would scale drones, AI, and robotic systems under the new command while trimming senior ranks under a “less generals, more GIs” push. Remaining officers were directed to a shuttle bus labeled “Legacy Leadership.”
Retired logistics expert Dr. Helga Rotorwash said the optics were intentional. “Nothing says transformation like watching a four-rotor get your old space,” she said. “The shuttle builds character. And cardio.”
One displaced two-star, who asked to be identified only as “still parking farther away,” said he supports the warrior ethos but draws the line at walking past a drone that beeps when he gets too close to its cone.
As of press time, the Autonomous Warfare Command had requested three more stalls, a charging cable, and a tiny reserved cone for “future swarm overflow.”
